The Departure

“Exodus” is a Latin word (derived from the Greek) that means “exit,” or “departure.” It is also a book that describes how God delivered Israel “out of” bondage and slavery from Egypt. After reading the bible through, we see that the book of Exodus is a shadow or pattern of what is to come.

According To The Pattern

Egypt represents the world, Pharaoh is the Anti-Christ, the Israelites are Christians, and Moses the deliver represents Jesus operating in the power of God. Christians suffer hardship, oppression and even death for being loyal to Christ, which is similar to being enslaved in Egypt. Towards the end of the age Christians cry out to God for deliverance from the Beast (Rev. 13:1-18 One World Government). Many are martyred in the Tribulation (Rev. 7:13-17). Then God judges the world for shedding the blood of His Saints by 7 trumpet plagues (Rev. 8:6-13). Interestingly, the Saints are miraculously delivered – Raptured – after the last trumpet plague (Rev.1 Thes 4:16-18) according to the pattern of how the Israelites escaped from Egypt through the Red Sea after the last plague. Next, God pours out the 7 bowls of His wrath (Rev. 16:1-21). The trumpet judgments are plagues upon the earth 1/3 strength. The bowl judgments are the full strength of the plagues. They are the same plagues that destroyed the vegetation, turned the sea and rivers to blood, caused boils, frogs, locus, hail, prolonged darkness… that plagued the Egyptians. Finally the remnant is harvested (the 144,000 Jews) then Jesus destroys the armies of the world at Armageddon with the words of His mouth (Rev. 16:16, 19:19, 15, 21).

In The Desert

The desert where the Israelites were delivered to is the spiritual wilderness of heaven where nothing exists but God. Mount Sinai is His throne and the Promised Land, Canaan or Jerusalem, which the Israelites inherited, is the earth the meek shall inherit (Matthew 5:5). We will rule over all nations with Jesus Christ for a thousand years (Rev. 20:4) following the great wedding banquet in heaven (Rev 19:6-9).

While in the desert, the Israelites were completely dependant on God. He miraculously gave them water and food. He protected them from the scorching, 135-degree sun by appearing over them as a cloud during the day. At night, He protected them from the freezing temperatures by appearing before them as a fiery pillar. In fact God created us with needs so we can depend on Him and so He can provide for us and have a relationship with us. Otherwise, why else would we need to be with the Father? In the past, I knew the roles that things played in our live like food, water, sleep and so forth. However, I did not understand the reason for heat and cold. Then I learned that they are just another layer of dependency on our God.

Summary

One reason why I trust and love the bible is because it is the true Word of God that gives life to all who embrace it. God demonstrates His Divinity by accurately predicting the future thousands of years in advance. The book of Revelation alone contains 22 chapters of pure prophecy.

The book of Exodus lays out a pattern for future events. Similar typecasts can be drawn from other books of the bible as well. One needs only to study them out.
